ACTION WEEK, Hong Kong
Action Week is a fast paced week that will allow you to learn several new adventure sports in natural environments. The goal is for you to have fun and form new friendships, while learning new adventurous activities, some of which you will hopefully take up as hobbies in the future.
These activities will include: 1. Surfing 2. Wakeboarding 3. Stand-Up Paddle Boarding 4. Rock Climbing 5. Hiking 6. Ball Hockey On the first day we will hike the Dragon’s Back, where we can get a sense of the geography and beauty of South Eastern Hong Kong, and then down into Shek O. The surfing coaches will take you for a walk along Shek O beach teaching you what a rip tide is and how to recognise and get out of one, along with other safety tips. After this you will learn how to get up from your knees to a standing position while still on the safety of the sand. Next you will enter the water with some paddling and swimming instruction. After a healthy and tasty Thai meal it’s time to surf. For the remainder of the day and for most of the next day you will be in the water learning to ride the waves and, believe it or not, everyone eventually gets up. On the third day we take a hike along the Tai Tam Reservoir to warm up and enjoy some fresh air and then down into Tai Tam Tuk where you will learn the basics of wake-boarding on their on-land demo station and then, on to the boats we go. The remainder of the day is spent wakeboarding. This is truly a challenging but thrilling experience. The fourth day gives us a break from the water and countryside as we learn two other sports. The day will begin with a lesson in a popular GSIS sport, ball hockey. Each year a new player is found from among the Action Week participants. After lunch you then learn to rock climb in the safe environment of an artificial wall. On the last day its back to the water and country with a ferry ride to beautiful south Lantau and Cheung Sha Beach. The day begins with a beach walk along one of Hong Kong’s longest beaches and then a team of experienced coaches teaches us the technique of SUP (Stand-Up Paddle Boarding). As this is easier to learn than surfing and wakeboarding it allows you more time on the board and lots of time to splash around. The week ends with a ferry ride back to Hong Kong with a week full of memories. |
