NEPAL
Students will be based in Deusa, Nepal at the Agroforestry Research Centre (AFRC). The centre is supported by the NGOs The Glacier Trust and EcoHimal. The students will be expected to complete short day treks to various destinations in the area. This will include visiting families and interacting with local students in the area. In addition, students will visit and be involved in various farming projects in the hills supported by the AFRC which aims to help the villagers become more resilient to the impacts of climate change. Their projects include:
· on-going training programme for farmers, · provision of improved quality seeds and seedlings, · introduction of improved quality and more resilient livestock, · introduction of poly-tunnels, improvement of kitchen gardens through inter-cropping and water-harvesting · introduction of cash crops (coffee, cardamom and hazelnuts) · the introduction of an open-defecation free zone and a litter free zone Students will also be able to experience some of the sights and sounds of Kathmandu during their last day in Nepal.
