GSIS SCHOOLS for SCHOOLS PROJECT, Northern Thailand
The Schools for Schools Project is an action-packed adventure and service week in Northern Thailand where students get to push their limits as they try new activities, and also take part in service initiatives in the local community. The trip is based at the Maekok River Village Resort, which is situated in the beautiful village of Thaton, in the famous ‘Golden Triangle’ area. The resort was opened in 1997 as both a recreational resort and a project centre for nearby villages.
GSIS students will work together to help with the construction of much-needed facilities within local schools. This could be anything from a classroom, a medical room or a library, to a nursery, canteen, computer room or a school hall. All projects are initiated by the local school itself and therefore are meaningful to the local community, where the school forms the centre of village life. Aside from the project work, students partake in activities such as rock climbing, rafting, archery, visits to temples and local hill tribes, as well as trying their hand at Thai cooking and dancing! There is also time to relax in the resort which has areas for recreation and relaxation including a pool, games room, volleyball court and tuck shop. Students are encouraged to fundraise for the project, and through their hard work they will see how their money is used to improve the conditions and opportunities for children in the area. Importantly there are no ‘middle men’ involved and all money raised goes directly to the project. Leaders: tbc
