YANGSHUO, China
Indier, our provider in Yangshuo, designs their programmes to fully immerse students in the countryside offering a genuinely authentic taste of China in one of its most beautiful areas.
Yangshuo is best known for its spectacular karst landscape, meandering rivers and green valleys. Due to the topography of the area Yangshuo provides an excellent base for outdoor sports and rock climbing. In addition to other activities such as cycling, hiking and camping, Yangshuo also provides opportunities for cultural interaction. Valley Hike & Geology Study A hiking trail that takes us through pristine Yangshuo countryside, where the only people we are likely to bump into is local subsistence farmers or a few goats; this provides the perfect route to experience Yangshuo countryside as it was 1,000 years ago. In addition to hiking, students will learn about the local karst geology and the formation of the incredible characteristics of Yangshuo. Karst Rock Climbing In addition to Yangshuo being well known in China for its pristine beauty, it has also developed into a world class rock climbing destination that hosts the largest collection limestone crags in the world. Students will learn the basic of rock climbing technique and safety, before trying their best of one of many routes that Indier uses. Zipline and Abseiling After hiking up to a cave which provides a window straight through a karst mountain, students will traverse the cave on a spectacularly positioned zipline, followed by a challenging abseil under the close tutelage of Indier staff. Wild Cooking On the first night of Wild Cooking, Indier staff will teach a lesson on how to cook in the back country. Students will be divided into cook groups and will be responsible for cooking their own meal as a group. Instructions will include cooking safety, techniques, and considerations for the outdoors with nutritional needs. Limestone Caving One major feature of Karst topography is the prevalence of limestone caves and underground rivers. Almost every karst mountain you can see will have a cave underneath. Students will travel into the depth of a cave in an adventures educational activity. They will learn about bats, cave formations, and other unique eco-system adaptations found in a cave. Students will also explore how a confined eco system like a cave interacts with other ecosystems in the surrounding area. Leader: tbc
